Over 10 lakh doses of COVID vaccinations are going to be wasted in Nepal due to a lack of an active vaccination program.

According to the Department of Health Services’ Logistic Management Section, 1000079 Covishield vaccines will expire in the next two weeks.

Since the immunization program is moving so slowly across the country these days, officials predict that just a small number of vaccines will be used during this time.

“To use all of them, you’d need 71,266 doses per day,” an official explains, “but right present, just 2,000-3,000 individuals are getting vaccinated every day.”

The source also blames the sluggish vaccination program for the lack of enthusiasm among local governments.

According to sources, the country wastes millions of rupees as vaccines go unused.

New cases of COVID-19 have been increasing as of late. The virus’s infection was confirmed in 60 people yesterday, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

Similarly, a new sub-variant of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was also detected in Nepal. Health experts suggest caution against the possible fourth wave of the virus.
