A controversy erupted over the crown worn by the winner of the rap music reality show ‘Nephop ko Shreepech’.
The crown which was worn by the winner originally belonged to a Bajracharya Guru, who is a part of the Newar culture and traditions. The crown conflict has been resolved after showmakers faced severe criticism.
Balen, the reality show judge who is also the mayor of Kathmandu, returned the crown to the Bajracharya Guru today.
In the reality show’s finale on Saturday, Mayor Balen Shah bestowed the ‘Panchabuddha’ crown to the winner, Viber Simon.
Such a crown is traditionally worn by Bajracharya Guru during the ‘Panchabhisek pooja.’ However, a debate emerged over the usage of a religiously significant crown during a music program.
On Monday, the city also scheduled a meeting to discuss the problem. Balen apologized for the mistake and decided to correct his error. On a program organized today, Balen himself handed off the crown to the guru.
“I apologize if it hurts the religious sentiment,” he said in the program.
