Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed that a house be built for Rupna Chakma, the national footballer part of the SAFF team, in her hometown in Rangamati.

Rupna, who clinched the title of best goalkeeper in the SAFF Women’s Championship games, comes from Rangamati’s Naniarchar. Following their achievement, Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman paid a visit to Rupna and Ritu Porna’s homes, presenting sweets, fruits, and flowers.

The picture of Rupna Chakma’s delipidated residence went viral on social media, catching the prime minister’s attention from the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to her Press Secretary Ehasanul Karim, she gave instructions from the US to build a house for Rupna’s family.  DC Mizanur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune that he has relayed the instructions to the UNO.

Similarly, The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a cash reward of Tk50lakh for the National Women’s Football Team that on Monday became champions in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship for the first time.
