The official distributor has bought an exclusive rights for the Broadcast of FIFA World Cup 2022 in Nepal, which means Nepali audience will need to pay extra of buy the World Cup package differently to watch the tournament.
Media Hub has bought the exclusive rights for the broadcast of 2022 FIFA World Cup inside Nepal, reported fee of Npr 20 crores. The tournament is set to begin from November 20 in Qatar.
Foreign channels used to broadcast the FIFA World Cup in Nepal despite Nepali distributers having the rights but not the exclusive one which bars international channels to air the same content.
Media Hub has been acquiring the broadcast rights for the FIFA World Cup in Nepal since 1998 but this is the first time they have got an exclusive rights.
Media Hub President Som Dhital said that they have reached a verbal agreement with Himalaya Television for the broadcast but the concerned parties yet to finalize the full agreement. According to him, the modality of broadcasting has not been finalized yet and the Media Hub is in talks with the TV service distributors.
He also said they are also in talks with the online payment gateways about the necessary arrangements of payment services because the distributors are introducing the broadcast package which means audience will need to pay extra money, exclusive of their current cable tv price for watching the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Nepal.
Dhital said the base price for watching the tournament will start from 500 for a month long package.
This is the first time that Nepali Television will broadcast FIFA World Cup in a pay-per-view model.
During previous World Cups, International channels used to show it, and Nepali distributors had to pay billions of rupees to buy their packages, this time why should we give it to foreign channels, we have taken the exclusive right thinking that the pay per view model should work, Dhital said.
