The Ministry of Health and Population has stated the COVID-19 4th wave in Nepal will hit its peak next month.

The ministry warns the number of daily infected cases might reach as high as 8000 from mid-Bhadra. Currently, the number of daily cases in Nepal is less than 1000. However, there are projections that it will continue to rise for the next three weeks before remaining constant for one or two weeks.

These cases will decline from the month of Aswin, as per the projection.

“We are halfway through the rising line in the Covid 4th wave,” a ministry official says, adding that the peak will be reached in a few days.

According to Sameer Kumar Adhikari, assistant spokesperson for the Health Ministry, the number of hospitalized cases and deaths may rise in the next two weeks.

In another alarming case, Nepal recorded 934 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), of 5,351 COVID-19 tests that were conducted in the past 24 hours, 934 tests turned out to be positive for the disease. The death toll caused by Covid 19 has also reached 11972. There are currently 5686 active cases of Covid-19 across the country.

Health experts believe that the number of active and new cases of Covid-19 in Nepal increased in tandem with the rate of infection in India.

Covid-19 infection is on the rise in India. Thousands of people are crossing the Nepal-India border into Nepal. The infection has been detected in those who enter Nepal through those points. Those individuals are spreading the infection, as per the doctors.

According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), many people traveling from India to Nepal are testing positive for coronavirus, implying that the majority of these cases may have been infected by the new variants. The border between Nepal and India accounts for approximately 35% of coronavirus cases.

BA5, a sub-variant of Omicron, was discovered in Nepal through gene sequencing research. This sub-variant is highly infectious. BA.5 is believed for causing a surge in new cases.

According to public health experts, the new variant is affecting even those who have been vaccinated. Recent research suggests that the Omicron infection rate was 12. BA.5 has an infection rate of 18. This means that a single person infected with BA.5 can infect up to 18 people. However, the doctors predict that the next wave won’t be dangerous as the past three waves thanks to the booster dose.

Doctors advise people to stop being careless and start following public health protocols put in place by the government during the first three waves.
