Niharika Rajput, a single mother who was raped when she was 17-years-old, has begun a hunger strike at Maitighar.

She has started an indefinite hunger strike, claiming that she was deprived of justice. Dhanusha District court has acquitted the Crimean due to political and financial power according to her.

After the District Court of Dhanusha ruled in favor of accused Shivaraj Shrestha on 24 Magh 2078, Rajput filed a case against the decision of the District Court on Dhanusha High Court. However, even after four months of filing the case, the hearing date has not been fixed yet. So she has decided to start a hunger strike.

She has stated five-point demand to be fulfilled. In the demand, she has asked for a DNA test for her child, and an investigation regarding the decision of the district court.

“Even after four months of filing the case, the court has not fixed the date for hearing. Me and my child are dying alive. Does the justice want me dead? High Court should hear this case as soon as possible and give the verdict,” she stated in her demand. “My rapist is walking freely. The police should take him into custody and start a re-investigation.  The state should ensure the basic things like education, health, etc of my 21-month-old child.”

She has said that she will not break the hunger strike until her demands are met. She demanded the case be re-investigated as the police had done negligence in the case from the beginning.

However, she and her accomplice Jashime Ojha was forcefully removed from Maitighar during the hunger strike at around 9 pm on Friday.

She was taken to Singhadurbar Police Circle. Jasmin Ojha had also accused the Police to put handcuffs on Rajput’s hand. She has also said that she has also got some wounds while police were trying to remove her. However, Police have denied the allegation of hurting and putting her handcuff.
