It is unbelievable that sending the ‘Red Heart’ emoji as a symbol of love to someone on WhatsApp can lead to jail time and even fines. But Saudi Arabia, a Middle Eastern country, has made such strict rules.

According to the Saudi magazine Okaz, Saudi users will be fined up to 1000,000 Saudi riyals and up to two years in prison for exchanging “red heart” emojis through WhatApp in Saudi Arabia.

Moataz Kutbi, a member of Saudi Arabia’s Fraud Control Organization said “sending love signs on WhatsApp could be considered sexual harassment.”

Without the consent of the other party, it would be a crime to send red roses and other emojis indicating love or sex along with ‘Red Heart’ on WhatsApp.

If the person repeatedly sends such emojis on WhatsApp, then that person will be given a five years sentence and have to pay a fine of up to 300,000 Saudi riyals.
